Dye-sublimation printers work by placing solid pigments (called color rolls) of four colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black, or CMYK for short) on a drum on which tens of thousands of Semiconductor heating elements, when the temperature of these heating elements rises to a certain level, the solid pigment can be directly converted into a gaseous state (the process of turning a solid state into a gaseous state without liquefaction is called sublimation, so this kind of printer is called sublimation printer), then sprays gas onto the print media.
